"Clarification of OHF Body Checking Motion
Monday, May 16, 2011
Richmond Hill, ON: - The Ontario Hockey Federation`s [OHF] Minor Council met on Friday April 29th to discuss the minor programs and among the topics was body checking in recreational hockey.
The OHF Minor Council endorsed the following motion:
Effective the 2011 - 2012 season body checking will be removed from all age divisions of House League and House League Select hockey.
The OMHA wishes to clarify that the OHF ruling does not affect Local League hockey within the OMHA. The ruling applies to House League and Rostered Select only and will not impact current regulations for Local League.
Local League programs can continue as in the past, and the decision to include body checking in Local League programming remains that of the local membership of your association.
The OMHA seeks to provide programming to achieve objectives consistent with Hockey Canada’s Long Term Player Development [LTPD] model, and provide players with opportunities within the recreational stream of hockey best suited to their development. With this in mind, the OMHA will endeavour, through consultation with all stakeholders, to provide opportunities to support the player at each stage in their development."
This decision will not affect any of the Otonabee Minor Hockey Teams. The Rep "A" and Leo-league "B" teams that had contact last year will once again have body contact this season as well.
If you have any questions please email us or contact one of your executive menbers for clarification.

Juvenile Team Status Update
Folks:
I am sorry to inform all that we will not be hosting a juvenile team this 2010/11 season. We had made the decision as an executive 2 weeks ago after contacting a majority of the Juvenile players that we only had 5 kids that were committed and a few non committals. At this time we contacted Douro to see what their #s were and at the time they had 10 players. After some discussions with Douro we decided to send our players to Douro so that there could be a team that would be able to accommodate both centres.
I was contacted by a mother the other night requesting we try to field a team, and I know through great efforts of hers that there was some progress on that front. The problem is that we as an organization still do not have confirmed commitments from enough players to be assured we will be able to sufficiently field a team. Further to the player #s issue we would have greater issues to overcome that involve the OMHA.
A) We told the OMHA that we would not be fielding a team – and they have already started the scheduling process.
B) We have already granted permission to our players to skate with Douro. If they want to stay there they can, albeit through an appeal process, and that will just cause relationship issues within our own community and Douro’s.
C) We had committed to Douro to sent players their way, and this is why they filed for a team. If we pull back our players, Douro will not have enough players to filed a viable team as they would be down around the 11-12 player range.
With all this said, it really comes down to a very simple fact. We had to make decisions that were tough with the information that we had available to us at the time. After spring registration, August registration, the ability to register on line, and our last resort of calling the players, we had to make the decision we did.
I apologise to any and all players that want to play here, that are not going to be able to this season.
I hope that next year we can get registration commitments earlier so we can avoid this situation.
Best Regards
Chris Brown

Presidents Message
Hello folks and welcome to the 2010 – 2011 Otonabee Minor Hockey Association season. As an executive we have worked hard to get the season rolling and it is right around the corner as I write this.
We will again be having fundraising events throughout the season to help with the skill development of our membership and to help build more community within our organization.
Again, I just want all to remember that the executive is here as always to work for you and with you. Having said that, I must ask that if you have any concerns that need to be addressed that you do not take it upon yourself to contact anyone from the OMHA directly. Please direct all concerns via email to Luke Weirdsma and myself and we will make sure it gets to the proper personal within the OMHA. We ask this so that our organization represents itself in a professional manner and that we follow the protocols that are set out within the OMHA to resolve questions or concerns.
Thanks in Advance
Chris Brown

New Team Training Room Equipment
As you may or may not know, we have purchased some small exercise equipment (Mats, Skipping Ropes, Yoga balls, Weight Balls, etc) with some of the money raised from the raffle last year for the training room which is located beside the dressing rooms.
We are encouraging teams to use the equipment, with the following rules:
- Players have to be supervised by members of the coaching staff at all times.
- No horse play & be careful of the glass cabinets
- Respect the room & the equipment.
- Ensure players are using equipment properly so we have no injuries.
- Put everything back the same way you got it.
- NO equipment is to leave the room at anytime.
- Clean up garbage.
- NO food in the room.
We are very fortunate to be able to use this room and have assured the arena staff that we will look after it.
It is our responsibility to ensure these rules are met and hopefully we can all work together to make this successful amongst our teams & organization and it will only grow to a bigger and better training room!
We don’t want this privilege to be taken away from us, so please pass along this information to your team.
Keep up the great work!
